Sr. VDI Administrator (VMware Horizon) - Remote

We are seeking a Senior VDI Administrator to work for our direct client.  This is a direct hire, full time, remote opportunity based in Evansville, IN.  This position specifically includes designing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and offering end-user support for a virtual desktop (VDI) environment using VMware Horizon. The position will also monitor system performance across multiple platforms and perform routine maintenance activities to ensure system performance.  Our client is unable to provide sponsorship at this time. 


  • Patch and upgrade Horizon environment.
  • Update and patch Golden/Master Windows images.
  • Enhance and fine-tune performance on VDI desktop.
  • Secure VDI desktop policies in Active Directory and Device Endpoint Manager (DEM).
  • Develop implementation plans for software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
  • Monitor and tune systems to achieve optimum performance levels.
  • Ensure workstation/server data integrity by implementing standard software and hardware solutions.
  • Conduct advanced hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot highly complex system hardware and software issues.
  • Develop performance and security plans for computers that meet the needs of network users.
  • Administration, maintenance, and technical support of assigned systems and SME responsibilities. This includes, but not limited to, technical ownership of the product, maintenance of the product and service recovery, product security, and coordination of the support relationship with the vendor.
  • Develop, implement, document, and maintain security standards as directed by IS security policies.
  • Create and maintain appropriate support documentation.
  • Assist in the planning, implementing, and documenting of a disaster recovery plan for all virtual desktop components.
  • Evaluates existing systems and plans long-term strategies.
  • Coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionals.
  • 7-10+ years’ related IT experience.
  • 5 years’ experience with VMWare Horizon VDI administration.
  • Experience with VMware App Volumes, vSphere, NSX, and Workspace One.
  • In-depth knowledge of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) technologies.
  • Understands GPO/AD policies and needs for Horizon requirements.
  • Solid understanding of Windows-based computer applications and operating systems.
  • Ability to accurately forecast resource needs for problem resolution as well as budgetary requirements as part of due diligence activities.
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends as needed.

Nice to have:

  • Certifications in Core VMware technology including VMware vSphere, vCenter, Application Virtualization, and Horizon View
  • Knowledge of Imprivata, NetApp, Cisco UCS, Microsoft Exchange and/or O365 implementations.
